Eyes of Corpses Going MISSING? 50+ Cases!

published april 22 2026

In recent times throughout Canada, though particularly Ontario, corpses of both animals and humans have been showing up without eyes. Along with this, grave robberies have been increasing in numbers. This is cause for growing concern, many wondering if a criminal is walking our streets. However, research prove that something smaller is the reason behind these strange occurrences.

Whats Going On?

While the Khlornacs may have you believe that a human is the cause of this, the actual perpetrator is a small critter known as "The Hunting Snail" or "The Corpse Snail." This creature, actually a slug, is known for scavenging in the wild. Like many snails and slugs, its an omnivore. It frequently consumes moss, vines, and other cave dwelling plants, however (like stated previously) it is an omnivore. The slugs have a strange preference for the kind of meat they consume, though. They frequently consume the eyes of freshly deceased animals, and though humans are not a common treat for them, due to overhunting of predators they have had to resort to this. While they are a rare case, it isnt uncommon for similar sized animals to sleep around or inside of corpses. In recent times, before burial, the eyes of the corpses will be gone with no clear traces of who did it. However, after examination, many of these cases show that there are small holes on the top or bottom of the coffins. This is due to The Hunting Snail slowly chewing through the wood to access the fresh corpses. Many snails/slugs are not capable of feats such as this, however The Hunting Snail has an alternative to a radula, more like leech teeth. Obviously, this is concerning, so what can you do?

What can I DO??

Well, if you recently lost a human or animal and are uncomfortable with the thought of their eyes being stolen, we can only recommend cremating them. Unfortunately, this process is expensive, and may go against the wishes of the dead. Luckily, many people don't dig up their loved ones' corpses, so you shouldn't need to worry about seeing eyeless family/friends/pets. If you mean what can you do to prevent this in general, and not just to stop them from taking someone close to you's eyes, then there's a few more options. If you're a hunter, we encourage you to slow hunting of large mammals and cave animals. The Hunting Snail is deterred by the smell of metal, so even if the corpse is left behind, the bullet will likely make the slug avoid said copse. We also recommend avoiding hiking and cave exploration, as the Slugs are incredibly skittish and may starve themselves for days if a perceived predator gets near them. Afterwards, they will seek out multiple corpses in order to not starve to death, and this may lead to frequent (Slug) grave robbery.

The Plus Sides

Despite the unnerving nature of these small creatures, they aren't dangerous. And, after the recent reports of eyes going missing due to them, police work shows evidence that they could possibly be helpful finding killers.

Dep. Spaghetti shared many innovative ideas for the police force, stating that "In this new century, we require new police work. These slugs could be the key to uncovering cold cases." They Believe closing off possible crime scenes and releasing the slug into said areas could show where corpses are hidden, due to the distinct shape of the holes they leave when digging. Local residents (when asked for their thoughts on the slugs joining the police force) share: "That's amazing, they might be a little slow but still." and "Yay!"
